Gene theraphy: Rewrite your own genetic code

Hi dear readers,
As this blog was named as ideas to share, i have never share any of my own ideas yet ^^. so today i will post one of my idea that i have been thinking since my second year in my medical study. i got this idea when i attended a lecture that told me about the mechanism of retrovirus, about how can it blends its genes inside the host DNA.

(Hiv virus)

As we know, retrovirus such as HIV virus can integrate its DNA to a host DNA. by doing this it can force the host to mistakenly produce the virus proteins in the protein synthesis process. so i think why don't we take advantage of this mechanism?

Today we still don't have any functional nanosized machine that can repair or modify our DNA. but this virus has the way to accomplish this. and we already have a technology to alter the virus genes so that the virus will not bring its genes to the host, but instead will bring genes that we give it to deliver. in doing this, codes in the virus dna sequence for DNA integration will be keep, and codes for producing the virus proteins will be replaced by our codes(DNA).

If this can functions as we want, we may achieve a technology of altering any traits of ourselves as we want. such as:

1. Intelligence. In the human genome project, all of our genes was identified according to its functions. and one of the genes that are responsible to intelligence is known as HAR1F. we modify this and we may live in a world that consist of all highly intelligence people. highly intelligence people can revolutionize the world faster, the future will come to us faster, and all of us will have a better quality of life.





2. Genetic diseases. in medical most of the genetic diseases are considered incureable. one my lecturer once said, it was already genetic defect what else can we do?. i'm not agreed with this xD, but i just keep quiet in class xD. we have many scientists researching on this. dont lose hope yet. we will discover the method of treating this as fast as we can. but for now, genetic diseases only treated with symptomatic treatment and this means the patient need a life long treatment. so now we should interfere. for any genetic diseases they have some kind of genetic defect, such as Hemophilia A have factor viii deficiency because it lack of factor viii code in the DNA sequence. now we gonna put the factor viii code inside the virus and sent it to the host so that host will have a code for the factor viii and can produce its own factor viii through the protein synthesis.


3. Change your physical appearance. this may seems a bit sci fi but i do believe this is possible. i think many people want to change their skin color, some may want to change their hair permanently. so what we need to do is no more buying the cosmetic product or do hair rebonding, just change the DNA for all this and get what kind of physical appearance that you want. also we may can alter some other characteristic like adding wings to our back so that we can just fly to any place and no need more to the flying jet pack that can only stands for 5 minutes. also we can create a mythical beings like pegasus or unicorn by adding wings and horn genes to the white horses. we may not achieve these in recent years but i really believe this is possible. furthermore in some research they already showed that with this kind of technology they created a mouse with human ear bulging on the back.

4. Immortality.  Some scientist are really working on this. they compare the adult DNA with the child DNA. and then see which DNA have changed. they have found some genes ( functional group of DNA) on this and now doing more detailed research to make this applicable to human. maybe at the beginning we can delay the aging process, and in the future we may achieve the immortality.
